Install Solaris 10 on Parallels Beta 2
December 29th, 2006 by MatteoToday I installed Solaris 10 on Parallels beta 2 (I wanted to test some software on a Solaris platform).
- As suggested by several hints on the net I changed the kernel boot options to
-B install_media=cdrom,atapi-cd-dma-enabled=0 - I tried to boot from the installation DVD without success (grub was giving an Error 13: Invalid format)
- I then tried with the CDs (same version) and the boot process proceeded smoothly
- The installer complained about the amount of RAM and I had to increase it to 500MB to enable the graphical installation process (I know that it isn’t strictly necessary but I wanted to see how it looked like …)
- Configured the screen settings (Xorg) following the hints on http://www.chenqi.org/blog/archives/2006/11/installing_sola.html
- Configured the network by mounting the Parallels Tools CD image and executing the configuration script: /cdrom/prltools/drivers/network/rtl8029/solaris/network.sh
- Installed the sound drivers from: http://www.tools.de/solaris/audio/
- Reboot and enjoy
